The Promise (Brook X Reader)

"______! ______!" Chopper called out.
You turn to the little reindeer waving his paw in the air and scurrying past the crowd to get to you.

"Chopper-kun! How was the ride on the Ferris wheel?" you asked as he leaped right into your arms.

"It was so much fun! Except when Luffy kept rocking the seat back and forth, then I thought we were going to fall off." he answered with a frightened look.
You laughed at the thought of your captain's carefree and wild actions that you simply pat his head in sympathy.

"By the way, do you have any idea where Brook is? I've been trotting all over Sabaody Archipelago and he said he'll be at Grove 40 but I couldn't find him anywhere."

"Brook? He's right over there." he pointed behind you.

"Eh."

And there he was, sitting on a bench with his legs crossed and enjoying his cup of tea.

"I'll be right back," you lowered him to the ground, "go see if Luffy has any money so he can buy you some cotton candy ok Chopper?"
He gave a quick nod with a huge smile on his face and ran off to search for the whereabouts of Luffy.



"Hm? Oh ______-san!" Brook noticed you walking towards him. "Today is quite peaceful isn't it? The sun is shining, the birds are singing, I was also wondering if you can show me your panti-"

"Baka!" you landed a punch across his thick skull as he face planted to the ground below. "You said you'd be at Grove 40 where the souvenir stands and shops were!" you crossed your arms.

"EHHHH!?" he mumbled loudly through the dirt. He stood up brushing himself off and rearranged his top hat. "40? My dear ______, I said I would be at Grove 30 where the amusement park was. Or did I say Grove 40? I'm sorry but my brain is trying very hard to remember. Although I'm a skeleton and don't have one Yohohoho~!"

"I don't know what I'm going to do with you." you sighed and sat on the bench.

"Maybe some tunes will help soothe the beautiful soul." he sat beside you and took out his violin to start playing.


After a couple of minutes, his playing stopped and his attention was brought to a small maroon colored box hovering in a bubble next to you. It was the only item you carried around today and everyone else seemed to also ask what's inside. 

"I'm sorry for interrupting ______ but I'm curious as to what's inside that box you carried around all day." Brook pointed.

'He saw it!? I knew I should've hid it when I had the chance. I was going to let it be a surprise but since he's already seen it, I guess it can't be helped.' you thought.

"I just got it today since I've been waiting days for it to get finished. It's...for you." you reached for the box and placed it on his hands.
Once he opened it, he was speechless.

Inside the box laid a golden ring, but it wasn't just any regular gold ring. A pattern of melody notes were crafted onto the sides of the ring while two tiny, dark midnight blue diamonds shaped as whales were centered in the middle. You could see Brook trying his hardest not to cry, as the small diamonds that shone in the sunlight reminded him of his long awaited friend from the sea, Laboon.

"I couldn't wait any longer so I'm just going to come out clean. Brook...I've been meaning to tell you something for a while now. 
Ever since I joined Luffy's crew, I knew it was going to forever change my life. You were the first that helped me fit in when I felt like I couldn't and the first that made me laugh on stormy days. 
I finally realized that I have people in my life who truly care for me, who love me for who I really am no matter how different I may seem. I have all of my friends and most importantly,
I have you."

You faced him and clenched your hands above your knees.

"I want to wake up every morning to the graceful harmony of your music and know that you'll always be right by my side. Brook,
I want to be with you for the rest of my life!" 

Utter silence. It felt like time had stopped and you and Brook were the only ones left of the world.

"I'll be waiting for your answer no matter how long it takes." you said as you got up. You started to head to the direction where the Thousand Sunny was anchored but stopped and looked at Brook who was still on the bench.

"By the way Brook, my favorite part from Bink's Sake song is "Say goodbye should be depart but keep your memories in your heart."
You turned back around and started to leave until two arms were suddenly cradled around you to prevent you from walking any further.

"I promise to always keep the memories deep within my heart,
the same place where I always keep you." Brook whispered and held you a bit tighter.

"...thank you."

Bounty of 90,000,000." spoke a low voice from behind.

You looked up only to notice an enormous 22 foot tall man with a familiar outfit such as the man you saw back in Thriller Bark. His hat had a pair of rounded ears and he carried a purple Bible in one hand.

"Y-you're...Bartholomew Kuma." you stuttered and backed away in shock. 

"Get away from her you bastard!" Brook shouted and shielded you with his sword. 

"______!" voices screamed.
Out in the distance, you could see half of the crew running towards where you and the Shichibukai stood. There were others missing and you trembled once you thought Kuma had something to do with the disappearance of your friends. 

"______ RUN! GET AWAY FROM HIM!" Luffy hollered from the top of his lungs. 

You sprinted without a second to think but your lungs were sure to give up soon seeing how far you ran away. 
He was too quick. The massive paw that had almost brought everyone's lives to an end long ago ago has arrived once again.

You reached your limit and turned to Brook to view him one last time.

"______! NO!" Brook yelled as he tried to catch up with you.
You felt the tears roll down your cheeks once you smiled at him. 

"Hey Brook, I love y-"





Your words fell short and nothing but silence was left.
